Updated (7:10 p.m. Sunday) : Due to hazardous road conditions, Lovejoy ISD will not have school on Monday.

For the third straight day a December ice storm is wreaking havoc upon road conditions in the Allen, Lucas and Fairview communities. After school was cancelled Friday due to the hazards posed by icy roads, classes were expected to resume on Monday. However, new forecasts have created doubt that the road conditions will have improved enough in that time.

“We will evaluate the road conditions this afternoon,” superintendent Ted Moore said, “Then we will decide if conditions are safe.”

Although some students look forward to the possibility of another day this off, it might create complications with finals a little more than a week away.

“We will have to wait and discuss finals with the teachers once everyone is back in school,” Moore said.

Although it may cause classroom complications, the safety of the community is the most important thing for the district.

“It is very icy,” Moore said. “That makes everyone nervous to drive.”
