Is Obama really Satan? Find out tonight at 9

Amy Bogucki, Blogger

I’m going to start this blog by saying that Barack Obama is not really Satan so if that’s what you came for, make sure you shut the door on your way out, thanks.

I am so tired of hearing people regurgitate what they hear on biased news stations and calling it fact. I’m tired of the American public valuing entertainment over education so much that the news has been shaved down to human interest stories, incoherent arguments, and extravagant lies that, for what they lack in honesty, they make up for in potential for violent outrage.

President Obama is not trying to steal your guns and Obamacare hasn’t caused a national calamity. If Mitt Romney had been elected, he wouldn’t have eradicated all possibility of abortion in the country or pandered exclusively to the wealthy elite while totally neglecting minorities. Fox News and MSNBC may be exaggerating, speculating, or flat out lying when they tell you these things, but that’s the only way to keep the ratings up.

“Tonight on Fox 4 News, we tell you why everything’s going pretty well.”

No one’s watching that. But promise a show full of imminent disaster, drama, and old white guys yelling at the camera, and it’s better than anything the Kardashians could throw at you. Besides, the news is educational!

Right?

Well, it certainly educates me on how Rachel Maddow feels. But that doesn’t mean it should educate me on how I’m supposed to feel. People don’t give themselves enough credit. They could absolutely form intelligent, rational, and defensible positions on issues if they considered every side and evaluated the ramifications for both themselves and the nation as a whole.

But that’s haaaaaard. It’s way easier to slap on a “Democratic” or “Republican” sticker and call anyone who doesn’t fit into your party an unpatriotic hippie or a right-wing nut job. It’s way easier to criticize President Obama for wearing mom-jeans as if that has any conceivable effect on the way he can run a nation.

Tell me one thing that you were scared that Obama was going to do while serving as President. If your answer was:

     A) Instate Sharia law like the Muslim terrorist he is

     B) Obamacare? I’m not sure what it is but I know it’s bad

     C) Be a democrat

     D) All of the above

then I implore you to steer clear of voting booths until you reevaluate your approach to politics.

There are perfectly reasonable criticisms of everyone’s approach to the Presidency, President Obama included. Maybe there truly was someone better for the job.

I wish they would have run because, to be perfectly honest, a lot of the Republican candidates in the last election were embarrassingly abysmal. Michelle Bachmann doesn’t seem to have a total grasp on reality and Rick Santorum missed the day in history class talking about separation of church and state and instead hallucinated a lesson about how the Constitution establishes America as a Christian nation.

Basically, the state of politics in America is depressing, and it’s largely because of the necessity to win the votes of a nation uneducated in real issues. It’s become a non-stop popularity contest in which image is more important than policy, personal opinions are either shrouded or amplified beyond recognition, and the Koch brothers have about as much say as the whole state of California because they provide considerable campaign funds, and it’s all to attract voters.

The real kicker is that less than 60 percent of eligible voters even vote and some of those voters are inevitably hilarious jokesters writing in Mickey Mouse as their presidential pick.

If politics isn’t important to you, that’s fine, but don’t act like you know everything because Glenn Beck told you that Obama is a Marxist. If Rick Santorum runs again, don’t base your opinion of him on my opinion of him. Make your own decisions, because when it comes down to it, yes, the voters really are the most important part of the voting process.
