Physical rehabilitation is a daunting task in the eyes of any athlete, and for sophomore Mick Ellis it has been no different. Ellis is a well-rounded athlete who invests many hours of time and effort into his school sports to be the best he can be. However, even the worst can happen to a dedicated athlete like Ellis.

This past football season, during district play, Ellis tore his ACL; a very serious injury in the sports world.

“It was extremely painful, but the worst part was knowing that this injury was going to put me out of sports for a very long time,” Ellis said.

Shortly after his injury he was given some devastating news.

“I was told that I was going to have surgery and that my recovery would take months,” Ellis said. “It was really tough to hear.”

Ellis has always been very involved in not only school sports but club soccer as well, so his injury was a major setback.

“Since Mick already is a member at Michael Johnson I suggested that he do his physical training there,” school trainer Coach Smiley said.

So as soon as he could, he began the rehab process at Michael Johnson Performance Course at Craig Ranch, attending every Monday and Thursday.

“I see him every week working on his ACL. He usually is in the hot tub loosening his muscles, then he does his exercises, then I see him icing,” sophomore Kaylin Carmichael said.

The training at Michael Johnson has been going well for him and he s expected to be back in the swing of things in about a month or two.

“I am ecstatic to be getting back into sports,” Ellis said. “I can’t wait!”
